2012 Curls for a Cause Event Overview

This year’s Curls for a Cause charity event, presented by Naturally Glam LLC, is the creation of Naturally Glam owner, Jonna Scott-Blakes.  Her mission is always to have events that not only benefit the natural hair community, but the community at-large by always supporting some charitably organization or cause at each of her events.  The purpose of the annual Curls for a Cause fundraiser is to have an event that not only gives attendees an opportunity to have fun, but also support those who are less fortunate.   She produced the first “Curls for a Cause” charity gala event while working with Waterfront Millionaires, and has decided to carry on this tradition with her own company, Naturally Glam LLC.
Last year’s flagship event took place on Friday, September 23, 2011 at the Downing-Gross Cultural Arts Center in Newport News, VA.  It was geared towards anyone interested in natural hair and benefited Menchville House, a long-term transitional facility for homeless women and children located in Newport News, VA.  The gala featured complimentary food and drinks until 7:30pm, giveaways from event sponsors, performances by local artists, a silent auction and a fashion show - all being a part of the night’s festivities.
This year’s event will take a different spin. There will also be guest speakers throughout the conference who will be sharing their stories, speaking a message of encouragement and empowerment, as well as offering information and demonstrations on topics like natural hair styling, fashion and beauty techniques, as well as how to start your own business in the hair/beauty/fashion industry.  In addition to the speakers, there will also be vendors and exhibitors.  Exhibitors will have an opportunity to share their company’s products and services with attendees during the event.
Then the mixer will take place that evening, hosted by the Jonna of Naturally Glam LLC and The Monroe Sisters.  The mixer will give attendees an opportunity get dressed up and mix & mingle with the speakers and others.  There will be light refreshments available as guests talk, dance and enjoy the evening.
